Living Sword
“The Living Sword” is a short film about three high school friends; Sheen, Kwan & Madison, separated by a trite bus accident and reunited through the phenomenon of Chinese fables and folklore. But when friend turns against friend, one is forced to become dependent on a sword enchanted with the soul of a legendary sword-maker.
I personally wrote, produced, edited and directed “The Living Sword” in 2007. The story is a condensed version of a feature length script I wrote, which will be added as part of a pitching packet that I am putting together for pitching this film in China or Taiwan.
The idea came about during a trip to Taiwan. The environment was begging to have an action scene shot in it
As I was developing the characters, I knew I wanted a hero who was your everyday man, but found himself suddenly in the possession of something that made him greater.
In my hero, SHEEN, I wanted a sort of King Arthur; a young man with the means of using his new-found power to become a leader and a hero, or a young man that would allow his new-found powers to be his own undoing.
In KWAN I wanted an enemy that the hero knew and that knew the hero. Some of the best stories are about two close friends or family becoming one another’s greatest rivals (I.E. King Arthur & Lancelot).
And as for a catalyst, who better than MADISON. Besides, a woman started one of the most memorable wars in history; The Trojan War.
The trailer below should give you a better feel:
Ah, and here we have what I call the TEASER TRAILER. This was edited at the request of my daughter. I felt it fitting being cut to a Taiwanese pop song…
